Elijah, fed by ravens!

“You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there.”1 Kings 17 : 4

Good morning, friends.

It was the period when Ahab the king supported the worship to Baal and he led the people stray. He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal. Ahab also made Asherah pole and did more to provoke the Lord to anger than did all the other kings of Israel. Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.” Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: "Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there." So he did what the LORD had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.

Elijah clearly stated that his God was a living God. He also declared that He was the one whom he served. Elijah means ‘Yahweh is my God’. I hope many of you have heard the song ‘These are the days of Elijah’. It clearly shows this man as one who declared the word of the Lord. The Lord wants you and me to declare His name and His word without fear and doubt. Amen!

When the Lord told Elijah that He would supply food to Elijah through ravens, he never doubted it. He simply obeyed after conveying the word of the Lord to Ahab and he fled to Kerith. I think that’s the first time the Lord speaking about providing food through ravens. I also think Elijah should have known how the Lord provided manna, the food of angels to Israelites day by day. So he believed that the Lord would provide him enough food and he never asked any question to God. He drank the water from the brook and then ate the meat and bread provided by ravens. How good it should be to be fed up even by ravens! But the situation turned upside down one day. As the land never saw rain as Elijah told, the brook dried up. The Bible no where talks about Elijah asking water and food to the Lord. Even before that, the Lord himself asked him to move to Zarephath and assured him that He ordered a widow to provide him food.

The thing which I wanted to add is, when the Lord leads you somewhere, don’t look for green pastures. Keep trusting Him for He is going to provide you everything that you need to survive, even before you ask for it in one way or the other. Remember the clubs may remain starving, but the ones who belong to the Lord will never lack anything!!!

Incredible kindness!

Do not neglect doing good and sharing; for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16  Good morning, friends! He was a seller of second-hand shoes. He seemed to be in his 70’s, and was so tired as nobody was buying his shoes. Then, a little girl came to him saying, " Sir, may I polish your shoes?" The old man took pity on her, smiled and gave her a shoe to polish. The girl said, "I polish the shoe because I need money to buy my brother a new school uniform." The old man replied, "Oh, little girl just stop doing this. Come with me and I will buy a uniform." Then they walked to a store and he bought a uniform. This act of incredible kindness, shown by someone who has so little for himself, proclaims an ultimate truth. The Bible talks a lot about showing kindness. A few sample verses are given below. “Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the f...

Thank you, Lord!!!

He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.   2 Corinthians 12: 9 Below is a small portion of what I read in the book ‘ I’ve got to talk to somebody, God ’ written by ‘ Marjorie Holmes ’. "Oh God, how grateful we should be for color. For blue skies, blue eyes, and for the little blue dress that I am hanging on the line, for the ruby red of cherries, the red on the wood pecker’s throat, for the countless shades of green which carpet the ground and for the lovely yellow so rich and so intense in an egg yolk, a lemon, golden yellow of sunshine, daffodils, for different shades of skin, eyes and hair! How dull it would be Lord to see all the races and all faces looked alike." I never imagined that someone would thank the Lord for the colors. She doesn’t stop there. She thanks the Lord for she got the chance to doing ...

Lazarus' Deliverer

Because He himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:18 Easter is the most special day in the history that gave hope to the mankind! Lazarus, the brother of Martha and Mary was dead four days before Jesus reached Bethany. Jesus loved that family and they loved him as well. He was not there when Lazarus was sick. Lazarus was buried when Jesus reached Bethany. His sisters were weeping. Jesus also wept. They told Jesus, “Lord, if you have been here, Lazarus would not have died.” They moved on to Lazarus’ tomb. There was a stone across the entrance. Surely there was bad odor. Yet, Jesus said, “Take away the stone. If you believed, you would see the glory of God.” He prayed and there came Lazarus alive with his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” God’s love is the same toward everyone! He doesn’t show favoritism. He love...
