Elisha, the sincere follower!

“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. 2 Kings 2 : 9

Good morning, friends. We’ve recently meditated on the same topic. Previously it was for the study on Elijah. But this time it is for Elisha.

When the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the LORD has sent me to Bethel” But Elisha said, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, “Do you know that the LORD is going to take your master from you today?” “Yes, I know,” Elisha replied, “but do not speak of it.” The same happened when Elijah told Elisha that he was going to Jericho and Jordan. He followed wherever Elijah went.

At Jordan, Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise not.” As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.

He picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the cloak that had fallen from him and struck the water with it. “Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over. The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, “The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

Here we can see the other qualities which Elisha had.

One:     Elisha was the follower of Elijah. He knew that his master was going to be taken up. He didn’t worry for taking such a greater task after his master. Elisha was sincere to follow his master till the end without the feeling of ‘left alone’. There was a higher risk to standalone for God at that time. King Ahab and his wife Jezebel hated Elijah. Eventually it would have turned to Elisha too. Yet he chose to stand for God.

Two:    Jordan’s water got divided just like the waters of Red Sea. They both walked on the dry ground. Elisha didn’t fear when he saw Jordan in front of him. Instead he too walked on the dry ground with Elijah when it got divided. He was so sure that they both will not be drowned. He didn’t have disbelief. I hope we all know that the disciple Peter didn’t have belief when he was walking on the waters towards Jesus and hence he was about to be drowned. Many times, we hear someone leaving a ministry or the partnership when they see problems in front of them, instead of trusting the Lord with all their heart.

Three:    Elijah never ignored his follower. He didn’t fail to recognize his sincerity. He granted Elisha a wish. He fulfilled his duty as a master. We have appraisals in our offices. Not all the employees get outstanding rating. And not all the employees will be asked what they want to continue their service. Only a very few employees get these chances. Why? It is because of their dedication. Elisha was dedicated and he truly served his master. That’s why he was honored by God and Elijah. What about you? You may be a software professional or a teacher or a student or a wife or a husband. God has placed you where you’re today for a purpose. Are you fulfilling your duty everyday? I believe everyone knows that our prime duty is to be the witness of Him and to proclaim the good news of Christ.

Four:     When Elijah asked Elisha what he wanted, he got a very difficult and a rare thing as reply. Elisha didn’t ask money or fame or anything ordinary. But he asked an extraordinary thing. The double portion of anointing! He valued anointing more than anything in the world and he was so wise enough to ask a pleasing thing. That too, in double fold of what his master had. In Bible we read about another man Solomon asking the Lord wisdom and He granted it to him.

Five:   When Elisha received the double portion of anointing, he had to come back to his place. Again he got stuck on his way by Jordan’s water. Previously his master was there to accompany him. But this time, he alone had to walk. He never hesitated to do what Elijah did. He struck the water and it got divided to the right and to the left. He crossed over the river. He exercised his faith. This clearly conveys that our leaders or masters will not be with us all the time. At that time, we have to exercise our faith. We know the power of His love and we have to take steps for Him.

Six:   I know a famous saying. The first generation starts, the second generation builds and the third generation destroys. This is not true in the case of Elisha. When other prophets saw Elisha they could feel the spirit of Elijah in Elisha. He was a blessing to many.

The call of Elisha!

Elisha set out to follow Elijah and became his attendant. 1 Kings 19 : 21

Good morning to you all. Let us meditate on Elisha for a few days just as we already meditated on his master Elijah.

Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. “Let me kiss my father and mother good-bye,” he said, “and then I will come with you.” “Go back,” Elijah replied. “What have I done to you?”  So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his attendant.

The above are just three verses 1 Kings 19 : 19 – 21. But they convey a lot to us. Let us see one by one. If any of you has any other point, kindly do send it to me to my inbox or drop your comments here, so that I can post them along with tomorrow’s message.

One:     Elisha means "God is Savior". This great man carried a wonderful gospel even in his name. Carry the gospel wherever you’re.

Two:    Elisha’s call was initiated by God Himself. Now-a-days many people, who run for ministry without God’s calling, fail terribly. So your ministry should be initiated by God and God alone.

Three:   Elisha was not reading any Book of Bible, but he was plowing the field. The world may look for external appearances or the talents you have. But the Lord looks at your heart. If you’re humble enough and sincere and dedicated in your heart, you’ll never miss the notice of God and remember He’ll definitely honor you, though you’re not very special. I remember this one, which I love most. God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called. Are you humble enough to work for God? But are you depressed that you’re not fit for the call? Don’t be worried. Just remind yourself of Elisha and his call.

Four:    Though Elisha was not expecting this great call at anytime, he was so quick to respond to the call. He knew that delayed obedience is disobedience.

Five:     Elijah didn’t force Elisha; as he was very well aware that as it was initiated by God, He would make Elisha accept the call. And that’s why when Elisha asked time to say good bye to his family, Elijah didn’t deny it. When God has called you for greater purpose, believe that He would never let you go out of that purpose.

Six:       This new servant knew that the worldly pleasures such as family should not disturb his ministry. He wanted to stay away from home and natural ties. He knew very well that no one can serve two masters. He was clear cut in God’s call. He was such a sincere man who wanted to engage himself in such a wonderful service to God. Though he was warmly attached to his family, the call to serve was much more important for him than his family and own desires. God’s ministry deserves the highest priority.

Seven:  He didn’t run away to say good bye to his family. Instead he asked prior permission to his master, Elijah. Such a humble spirit he had. When you’re into ministry, obey your master whom the Lord has appointed. You should have a humble spirit when you serve God.

Eight:    Elijah had more and more enemies. King Ahab and Jezebel were the prime enemies who disliked Elijah. But Elisha had no fear in following Elijah. He didn’t look upon the hindrances to his ministry; rather he focused so much on God’s call. Are you into ministry? Are you too much disturbed because of the troubles or barriers you see today? Please stop doing it. The God who has called you for His greater purpose will take care of you and all the barriers you see today will be vanished just like the snow vanishes when the sun rises.

Nine:    Finally, Elisha never felt sad to leave all the properties and the blessings from his father. He valued God’s call more than anything in the world. This clearly shows that he knew very well that he would not lose anything when he loses it for Christ. Remember we are co-heirs with Christ. We’ll inherit whatever the Lord has. Value God’s call more than anything in the world.

Definition of success!

The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory belongs to the LORD. Proverbs 21 : 31

Good morning to you all.

A young man asked Socrates the secret to success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river. When the water got up to their neck, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked him into the water. The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue. Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and take a deep breath of air. Socrates asked, “What did you want the most when you were there?” The boy replied, “Air.” Socrates said, “That is the secret to success. When you want success as badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it.” There is no other secret.

How do you define success today? Do you believe that you can do whatever you deeply desire? Do you believe in your self today? Friends, the world may define success in that way. But The Holy Bible says the victory belongs only to the Lord. It doesn’t belong to you, your hard work, your talent, your knowledge or anything else.

Because my Bible says, the Israelites did nothing, but the Lord fought the battle for them. David did nothing, but singing praises and by the help of the Lord he killed the giant Goliath with just a stone and a sling. Moses did nothing, but he could make a snake out of the stick. Without anything on their own, Moses and Joshua walked on the dry ground when the great Red sea and Jordan were divided. Without any great effort, because of Joshua’s prayer the sun stood still. With a prayer, Hezekiah was able to get fifteen more years added to his life. The Lord was with Joseph. He was taken from the prison and was made a Governor in Egypt, a foreign country. The Lord was with Daniel. He faced victory in whatever he did. He even came out of starving Lions’ den. The Lord was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed Nego when they were thrown into the fire. Not even their dresses or hair burnt. Are these not the amazing victories? Do you believe anyone can achieve it by sincere and hard work? No... No one can do it, except with the help of the Lord. The Almighty is our only strength. If He is with us and for us, who/what can shake us?! Let us learn to define success this way.

Piano Lessons!

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name. Psalms 92 : 1

Good morning to you all.

I got an email from the Worship Leader Don Moen sharing his experience. He is the composer of the famous songs like 'Give thanks', 'God will make a way', etc... 'God is good all the time' is yet another familiar song which almost we all know. Read what he says below.

When I was a kid growing up in MN, my mother forced me to take piano lessons and I hated it! All of us kids, my older brother, my two younger sisters had to take 6 years of piano lessons. Six years! It seemed like an eternity! Oh gosh did I hate it. I’m sorry to say that I used to pound on the keys and say, “I hate piano!” –my poor mother… However, my mom was unphased and would tell me she’s not counting that as part of my practice time. I had to practice 30 minutes every day and she had the audacity to tell me, “one day you’ll be glad you can play the piano.” Yeah…right, I thought. (Had I known that I was going to be doing what I’m doing now, I certainly would have practiced harder!) Mom used to say to me, “Donny, you wear the clothes we provide for you, you sleep in the bed we provide for you, you eat the food we provide for you, YOU WILL PLAY THE PIANO! I determined that I would never do that to my children.

Well, we have 5 children, and every one of them had to take (you guessed it), 6 years of piano lessons! And…I heard my mother’s words coming out of my mouth! We provide the clothes you wear, the bed you sleep in, and the food you eat, you WILL play the piano. Funny! Sometimes I wonder what I would be doing today if my mother hadn’t forced me to play the piano? I didn’t like any part of it, but you know what? I’m thankful I can play the piano. And sometimes, God allows us to go through things that we don’t like because He knows that someday, we will bet better because of the experience. So if you’re going through something that is causing you frustration, maybe even some pain, don’t give up…don’t be discouraged. God will not allow you to go through anything that has not already been sifted through His fingers of love.

Romans 5:3-5 says "Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." Now, I know I used a humorous example, but truly, the Lord is using these frustrating things in our lives for good. So let's try and see that today, I know I need to be reminded of that more often!

The Father with the rod!

He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him. Proverbs 13 : 24

Good morning, friends.

Today morning, while washing my dress I found some stains on it. Though I washed each and every area of that dress, I gave more importance to the area where I found stain. I applied more and more washing soap over that area and brushed and brushed that again and again.

The other day, when I was boiling the milk, I was very careful to watch it continuously. But when I turned to take my Bible, the milk overflowed and spilled outside.

I got two different messages from the above two incidents.

One:   Sometimes though we don’t commit the greater sins like murders, adultery, etc…, we often fall into smaller sins like telling lies just like that. We’ll also justify why we told lies. There is nothing like great sins and small sins. Every sin is equal. Satan is too wicked and he is like a roaring lion in search of a prey. The very next moment he sees something wrong with us, he will go to Jesus to make Him stand ashamed in front of him for our sins. So be careful all the time. That’s why Jesus asks us to watch and pray to not to enter into temptations. If you give up a small place for it, it’ll occupy you. If you say that you’ll be careful even if you stand in the temptation, no matter how careful you’re, you’ll fall just like the boiled milk spilled out when I turned for a second. The result will be miserable. We all know that the greatest enemy for one’s happiness is the guilty feeling he has in him after committing sin.

Two:   Sometimes you may feel that the Lord teaches you something, which you don’t like at all. A little son doesn’t like when his mom doesn’t allow him to touch knife. When he touches, his mom will ask him to leave it, very softly many times. But when he doesn’t pay attention, definitely his mom will spank him. It doesn’t mean she hates him, but it means she loves him and she doesn’t want him to get hurt by the knife. The same thing holds true with our Father in Heaven. He loves us like anything. But He spanks us sometimes, just like I brushed and applied soap and brushed and brushed again and again until I saw the stains disappeared. The ultimate aim was to get the dress clean. His ultimate aim is to cleanse us till He sees His image in us, just like a goldsmith refines and refines the gold till he gets it pure. He spanks us until we leave the knife (unwanted things) we took in our hands(hearts).

Elijah taken up to Heaven!

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4 : 7, 8

Good morning, friends.

These are the things which I get from the above.

One:    Elisha was the follower of Elijah whom he has chosen. I believe the follower will be sincere only when his master is sincere. The same happened with Elisha and Elijah. Elisha was sincere to follow his master even at his death. Elijah was that much dedicated, which automatically formed a dedicated follower Elisha. When you serve God sincerely with all your heart, mind and soul, definitely many will follow you. And you’ll be a good leader whom one can follow. You can lead others to Christ easily.

Two:    Jordan’s water divided just like the waters of Red Sea divided. They both walked on the dry ground. The Lord was with Elijah in whatever he did. This was because Elijah was with God. Be with God! He’ll be with you in all your steps. He’ll divide all your problems; allow you to overcome them all and multiply your peace and rest.

Three:    Elijah when he knew that he was going to be taken up didn’t confess his sins to enter into heaven. But he was taken up to Heaven. How was that possible? He remained a good one doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

Four:    Elijah never ignored his follower. He didn’t fail to recognize his sincerity. He granted Elisha a wish. He fulfilled his duty as a master. What about you? You may be a software professional or a teacher or a student or a wife or a husband. God has placed you where you’re today for a purpose. Are you fulfilling your duty everyday? I believe everyone knows that our prime duty is to be the witness of Him and to proclaim the good news of Christ.

Five:    Elijah raised a very wise follower, who asked him a very difficult and a rare thing. He didn’t ask money or fame or anything ordinary. But Elisha asked extraordinary thing. The double portion of anointing! Yes, if you’re anointed, you can raise many extraordinary anointed wise followers.

Six:    When Elijah was taken up to Heaven, he didn’t leave Elisha alone. Instead he left him with the double portion of anointing. Friends, you can never leave yours alone. Yours will definitely inherit what you’ve and above all, they will receive everything in multifold. But when? Only when you stand alone in righteousness, fight the good fight, finish your race with faith .

Do you believe it? The choice is yours. If your choice is yes and if you really want to be a blessing to others, the Lord is faithful enough to raise so many Elishas and widows of Zarephath.

Amazing love towards the unworthy!

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12 : 30

Good morning friends. I got an email which has this story. It is really touching.

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the kitchen totally forgot the matter. The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated by its color and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how to face her husband. When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just 5 words.
What were the five words? Any guess?

The husband just said "I am with you Darling"

The husband's totally unexpected reaction is a proactive behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother. Besides, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle away, this would not have happened. No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her.

This story is really worth reading. How amazing this love is! And how wonderful and fruitful when it is shown at the time of need! Friends, it is the time for us to remember our Beautiful redeemer who has rescued us even when we were sinners. He showed His love on the cross when he shed even the last drop of His blood for the worst sinners, who have not even acknowledged Him. Did you ever think 'what we did to get this great love?' The answer is 'nothing'.. Or it could be 'we CRUCIFIED' Him. Who will care for someone who never understands the love that is shown to him/her? No one else other than our Lord. The above said story illustrates how good it'll be if one gets such a loving and caring partner. Friends, in the same time, we should not forget our everlasting Bridegroom who has already shown more than that love toward us, even before 2000 years. Let us feel His love on us, which is really really selfless, unconditional.

Helping at any cost!

Give, and it shall be given unto you; .....For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." Luke 6:38

Very Good Morning.

I hope many of us are familiar with Mr. Bean(probably in Pogo channel). He is a humorous character, liked by many of us(especially kids). Yesterday while watching his film, I saw one thing which is more funnier of course, but highly thought provoking.

Mr. Bean walks along the road. He saw a beggar playing a musical instrument and collecting money from the people. Mr. Bean seas a man giving a coin to the beggar. So he too wishes to give him something. But he doesn't have change. So he thinks for a while and then he takes his hand kerchief and places it on the road and starts dancing. It seems as if the beggar sings and Mr. Bean dances for him. A man comes that way. He saw Mr. Bean dancing so seriously, then he takes some penny and lends it onto Mr. Bean's hand kerchief and goes away. Then Mr. Bean bends and takes the penny and gives it to the beggar and makes his own way...

It is so nice to watch that. Even though it might have taken just for fun, the thing which we have to notice is "Giving others" at any cost. There is nothing wrong in giving others what they need. Having this precious life, we have to earn more hearts, just like Jesus earned a lots and lots of hearts by His care and Love. Life is good only when it is lived for others too. The help which we do, may be small for us. But it will be everything to those who are in need. Help and be helped.

Pass it on?!

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5 : 7

Good morning. I know this is a lengthy story. But it means a lot. Please read it.

He was tired and aching and on his way home from a long day at work, so he almost didn't see the old lady stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His old Pontiac was still sputtering as he approached her. Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. He didn't look safe; he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was that chill which only fear can put in you. He said, "I'm here to help you, ma'am. Why don't you wait in the car where it's warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson." Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. The lady asked how much she owed him. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed, and Bryan added, "Pass it on." He went off.

A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. The waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn't erase. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan. After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, but the old lady had slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something written on the napkin. There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote: "This isn't a tip, it's a gift. You don't owe me anything. Somebody once helped me out and if you feel you want to pay me back, don't let this chain of love end with you, pass it on." Under the napkin were four more $100 bills. Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it to closing time. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard.... She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a gentle kiss and whispered soft and low, "Everything's going to be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson."

"What goes around comes around." Your kindness even to strangers / enemies will return to you, as the Lord clearly says, that those who are merciful to others will be shown mercy. Are you ready to ‘Pass it on’ ?

How close I'm to God?

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Psalms 1:1,2

Every day in the morning, I and a small boy nearer to my home compete with one another. I'll strive hard to start from my home before he start to his school. If I win, I'll just go to his door to tell him, "Roshan, I'm the first". But he will not reply at least once if I win. He'll hide him inside his home without even replying me. But if the reverse happens, he won't allow me to do any work. He'll come before me and shout at me, as if he won the whole world. Today morning he started earlier. My door was not opened. So as usual he shouted happily. Though I didn't see him, I could feel his happiness. Similarly, I could see his anger when I start first, even though he hides his face from me.

How is it possible for me to understand his feelings? The only answer is 'Because I know him well'. Everyday I mingle with him. I play with him. Sometimes I teach him, I beat him(of course it won't hurt him), etc... As I interact with him daily, I can feel all his feelings. In the same way, if I have a good relationship with my heavenly father my God, the most Holy and exalted, I can know His feelings. If I meditate His words always and If I dine with His spiritual goods, I am a better one to understand Him, to feel Him, to possess Him, to accept Him, to love Him. Nothing else could be a barrier in listening to Him. Yes friends, in this dangerous world, it is sometimes very hard to hear His silent voice. But if ours and His vision are synchronized with each other, nothing will stop us from being His precious children.

Wanna miraculous signs?

The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply and said, "Why does this generation ask for a miraculous sign? Mark 8 : 11,12

Good morning, friends.

Last day, one of my friends working with me has sent me a text message that she has cleared an exam at the very last attempt only by the compassion of the Lord. I in turn have sent her an email saying, 'I praise God for your last attempt, where He proved that He still lives!' Later I reached my room and when I read Mark 8, the Lord made me realize one thing that I've done wrong.

If we carefully read all the four gospels from The Bible, we can know that the Pharisees were always around Jesus when He preached the truths, when He healed, when He raised people from the death. Even after knowing everything, they asked for a miraculous sign. Jesus questioned them and left them all and went other side.

I really felt ashamed for what I've sent to my friend. Didn't I behave exactly like the Pharisees? I know very well that even before I was born, He has chosen me and has known me by my name. So far, He has beautifully led me through various blessings, that I could not count forever. He has also led me through various trials and taught me how to overcome them all by His strength. I know very well that my Lord has great plans in store for me. I also know that He loves me more than anyone else, though I'm not at all worthy. I know that He has cleansed my blood red sins into cloudy white. I know that He is my potter who prepares me for the purpose He has for me. Though, I sent her 'I praise God for your last attempt, where he proved that He still lives'. Does He really have to prove that He lives even after His death for the worst sinners and the miraculous resurrection from the death?

'He is risen and He lives forever more'. Come on, let us celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, instead of looking/asking for miraculous signs.

Seek Him first!

I love them that love me: and they that in the morning early watch for me, shall find me. Proverbs 8 : 17

Good morning, friends.

I love listening to songs when I am about to sleep. I have lots of Don Moen's songs in my mobile phone and I love hearing them again and again. So by the time I get up in the morning, sufficient charge will not be there in the battery. So as soon as I get up, I've to charge the battery. If I fail or if I feel lazy to do it, I've to do it in my office. Sometimes I forget to bring my charger. Or I won't be able to charge it at all, because of various other reasons. But when I think of client calls, I regret for being lazy. Now-a-days, I don't forget charging the battery in the morning.

God reminded me something from it. Proverbs 8 : 17 says, "Those who seek me early in the morning, shall find me". Friends, the Lord clearly says that He needs us in the early morning. He longs for us to come into His presence as soon as we wake up. But if we ignore His word, and if we try to do it later, we may not be able to find time in our BUSY schedule. Even if we have Bible software in the mobile, or lots of websites to read the chapters in the Bible or even if we have small handy Bible in our hands, we fail to read it and pray when we keep postponing and finally end up only in a guilty feeling that we didn't seek God. (I know many of us don't even have that guilty feeling.) It is necessary that we should spiritually get charged before we leave our home. Remember every day is a perfect gift from the Lord, which we get unconditionally. If suppose God make it a conditional blessing, that if you don't spend at least half an hour or one hour with Him, you won't be able to walk at all for the entire day, how many of us would go out of our home? But our God is really awesome and decent enough and he doesn't force anyone to come to Him. He just whispers and not shouts. It is up to you to choose whether you'll listen to it or ignore it.

'You are my strength, when I'm weak' song has this line. 'Seeking you as a precious jewel..' Are you seeking Him as a precious jewel? 'Come into His presence with thanksgiving in your heart and give Him praise'.

Do you believe?

For everyone born of God (child of God) overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 1 John 5 : 4

Good morning, friends. I read this in a book and found it to be useful. I hope you’ll too.

Some years ago, a boy in a small Florida town heard that the Russians were their enemies. He began to wonder about the Russian children, finding it too hard to believe they were his enemies. He wrote a short note: “Dear friend in Russia, I’m seven years old and I believe that we can live in peace. I want to be your friend, not your enemy. Will you be my friend and write back to me?”

He closed the letter “Love and Peace” and signed his name. He neatly folded the note, out it into a bottle and threw it into an island lake near his home. Several days later, the bottle and the note were retrieved on a nearby beach. A story about the note appeared in a local newspaper and a wire service picked up the story and sent it nationwide. A group of people from New Hampshire who were taking children to the Soviet Union as ambassadors of peace, read the article, contacted the boy and his family and invited them to go with them. The little boy and his father traveled to Moscow as peacemakers!

Jesus told us to have faith like a little child. One boy believed that he could make a difference! Do you believe today that you too can make a difference when you’ve a deep desire for peace and love? At least maintain a good relationship in your small world, with your classmates, with your colleagues who are in the next cubicle, with the neighbors, with those who travel next to you in bus, etc,… Little drops of water make an ocean. If each and every one of us starts looking for ways to share our love, I believe there is no need for an ambassador. After all, we have a single life. Why do we have to waste it hating others?

Elijah, strengthened by God!

Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you. 1 Kings 19 : 3

Good morning, friends.

Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them (the prophets of Baal whom Elijah has slaughtered).” Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. There he went into a cave and spent the night.

These are the things we need to know from this passage.

One: Jezebel was Ahab’s wife. Ahab informed everything that happened at Mount Carmel. She was a Baal worshiper. When she heard that all the prophets of Baal were killed, she got angry on Elijah. She threatened him. This is what exactly happening in many families today. Husband telling something unwanted to his wife and wife giving away wrong suggestions lead to a greater disaster. Think twice before you act actually.

Two: Elijah was afraid of a woman. He who didn’t fear anyone including the king was now afraid of a lady, who sent a messenger with her threatening words. He ran for his life. God wanted to protect him and that’s why He allowed him to run away. God’ll never let others touch you, my friend. You’re the apple of His eyes. If someone harms you, don’t be afraid and run somewhere. God is waiting to protect you from his/her hands.

Three: Elijah prayed that the Lord should take his life. The great man of prayer, who stopped the rain, who caused the rain and who brought fire to accept his offerings at Mount Carmel, etc,… now prayed a wrong prayer. The one, who got answers to each and every prayer, didn’t receive the positive answer to this prayer. Instead it was a negative answer. The Lord didn’t take his life as he prayed. That is because; He altogether had a different plan for Elijah. Elijah was one of the few men who were taken up as such. When God is having a different purpose for you, sometimes He may not answer your prayer shortly. He’ll reveal the greater plans He has for you and will encourage you saying, “My child, get up, still there is more. Please don’t give up. I have the best plans in store for you.” Sometimes a ‘No’ would be much better than a ‘yes’.

Do you agree with me here? I experienced it many times in my life. When I asked for cheaper things, God didn’t grant me them, while I hanged on to them. Instead He just removed those cheap desires from my heart, not only the branch, but along with the deep roots. He’ll do the same for you too. I remember writing this in my email before. Even though the parents wish to give whatever the child asks when they carry him to the shopping complex, they will never buy a knife or a pistol for him. Because they know that one day or the other, it would definitely harm and destroy their loving son. The same applies to our God. If you don’t get the answers to some of your prayers, it may not be the best and good thing for you. Or it may not be the right time for you to have it. Anyways, rejoice in Him. We can be sure of one thing. God is in control. He has the best in store for us.

Four: Elijah got strengthened by the food that God provided. When you face troubles everywhere, remember it should be God to guide and console you. Don’t go to the wrong side. I remember reading a tweet of Joyce Meyer, ‘If you face a problem, don’t run to the phone, but to the throne of our King’. That’s true. It’s not wrong when you need prayers of others. But just asking them to pray and sitting idle will not help always.

Five: When God gives you strength, the result is peace and rest.

Elijah, the vibrantly praying servant!

The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man's hand is rising from the sea.” 1 Kings 18 : 44

Good morning, friends. Elijah warned the King Ahab and the people for they were not faithful to God and won many souls for God at Mount Carmel.

Elijah said to Ahab, “Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.” So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. “Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. And he went up and looked. “There is nothing there,” he said. Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.” The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man's hand is rising from the sea.” So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’” Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain came on and Ahab rode off to Jezreel.

We learn a lot from this passage.

One: There was no rain for three years, till the people and the king Ahab turned back to God and till the Baal and its prophets were slaughtered at Kishon valley. This clearly shows that there should not be anything between you and God to have your prayers answered. Anything should not be a prayer killer and nothing should be a barrier for your prayers to reach Heaven. When you throw away or stop giving high priority to the idols like statues, money, career, family, job, evil habits, etc… you’ll see the rain, i.e. the answers to your prayers.

Two: Elijah made the people realize that the Lord only is the living God. You and your life should convey the same to others. If your nation has to be blessed, not only you, but everyone has to turn back to God. What are you doing today to let this happen? At least, are you having a real burden that others should come to the Lord?

Three: Elijah asked the king to eat and drink. He asked the king to rejoice for the purpose of the drought was fulfilled. In the same way, when we leave all our idols, there is a great celebration in Heaven and the God will pour out His blessings on you and yours. And there will be no more weeping, but only feasts. This doesn’t mean you’ll have a smooth bed under your feet always; there will also be the path of problems, but God will give you peace and rest as He works out everything for your good.

Four: Even before the rain came, Elijah told that there was a sound of heavy rain. When Elijah’s servant looked up, he saw nothing. But Elijah was very confident on God and on His prayers. Friends, many times we too pray, but we keep on praying without confidence. And that’s why we’re not able to receive the answers. Elijah proclaimed the victory even before he actually saw the victory. So the Lord honored his faith and gave rain.

Five: When Elijah asked his servant to go and look up, his servant came and reported that he saw nothing six times. Elijah didn’t give up. He again asked him to go for the next time and there came the victory. There was cloud as small as a man’s hand. When you pray with lot of faith and when you see no immediate result, what are you doing? Are you praying a persistent prayer? I think some of us will pray a persistent prayer for ourselves. But are we praying persistently, till we get a ‘yes’ from the Lord for others?

Six: When we ask for something big like heavy rain, we may sometimes see only a small cloud as small as a man’s hand. But never give up. The big torrent is on its way. Our God is an awesome God. He can call everything out of nothing. Elijah knew it and the Lord reminds us today. Trust in Him for He’s a big God.

Seven: Can you guess the reason for such a heavy rain? It’s the prayer of the righteous man, Elijah. Just concentrate more on how he prayed. Climbed up to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees, he prayed. He prayed diligently and vibrantly for his nation. Today the Lord needs more and more people to stand in the gap and pray vibrantly. If you choose to fulfill His desires, He can use you like He used Elijah.

Elijah, the soul winner!

Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”1 Kings 18 : 21

Good morning, friends. Elijah warned the King Ahab for He was not faithful to God and asked him to call out all the people at Mount Carmel. They all gathered.

Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”

Then Elijah said, “I am the only one of the LORD's prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. Get two bulls for us. Let them choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The god who answers by fire—he is God.” Then all the people said, “What you say is good.”

The prophet of Baal took the bull given them and prepared it. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “O Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention. Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come here to me.” He built an altar in the name of the LORD, and he dug a trench around it. He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, “Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the offering and on the wood.” He asked them to do it again and again till the water started ran down the altar and filled the trench.

At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.” Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The LORD -he is God! The LORD -he is God!”

We learn a lot from this passage.

One: The purpose of Elijah was, the people should know the true God. What’s your purpose today?

Two: He feared no one, including King or Baal. I know many people who believe in God, but still they fear for other idols. They’re afraid to walk on the pumpkins, camphor which was sacrificed to the idols on the road. They’re afraid to completely come closer to Jesus, as they think that the idols will cause troubles in their lives. They are afraid of their bosses, their enemies, etc,… Come on people, if God is with you, who/what can shake you?

Three: Elijah asked the people, “How long will you waver between the two; God and the Baal?” He was so bold to ask this as He didn’t waver between the two. Today I don’t talk only about the statues that are made by the men by their hands. But also about the things to which we give more priorities than to God. It may be the job, your family, your partner, your studies, anything and everything other than God. And the other thing to be noted here is, “How long?” He was very clear on this. I think if today he is alive, he would have asked the same to us too. “How many sermons, meetings, miracles, proofs, etc,… do you still need?” Think about it.

Four: Elijah knew that the Lord would answer his prayer and asked the right thing. He gave more importance to the souls rather to his own life.

Five: He never doubted whether the Lord would accept his sacrifice or not. He boldly proclaimed that the God would send fire to burn up his offering. The Lord honored his faith. What’s your level of faith? Most of the times, we’re afraid to take steps for God, thinking what to do, it that doesn’t happen. Be strong and take courage. Take steps boldly for God. Definitely He’ll honor your faith.

Six: Through this servant of God, the people glorified the name of the Lord. They turned back to God. Are you bringing people to Christ? Are others seeing the power of God in you? If no, just ask for that. The Lord of Elijah is still here amidst of us. His power is still the same. He can still use you to be a blessing to many.

Elijah, the troubler of Israel?

When Ahab saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, you troubler of Israel?” 1 Kings 18 : 17

Good morning, friends.

Elijah declared that there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at his word.1 Kings 17 : 1 And then there was no rain and Elijah ran to wherever the Lord told him and hid himself from the king Ahab. We saw what happened to Elijah and the widow at Zarephath when there was no rain. 1 Kings 18 : 1 After a long time, in the third year, the word of the LORD came to Elijah: “Go and present yourself to Ahab and I will send rain on the land.” So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab. Elijah met Obadiah who was a devout believer in the LORD and who took a hundred prophets and hid them in two caves. He asked Obadiah to tell Ahab that he was there. Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him, and Ahab went to meet Elijah. When he saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, you troubler of Israel?” “I have not made trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “But you and your father's family have. You have abandoned the LORD's commands and have followed the Baals. Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel.”

Elijah, the man of God was considered as an angel by the widow of Zarephath, as she was blessed by the Lord through him. But to Ahab, Elijah was a troubler of Israel. Are you a servant of God who truly serves the Lord? If yes, then do you think that some people around you hate you because you’re not of the world and of God, that you’re very different from them? If yes, just praise God; stop murmuring at their backs. Pray for them and declare the Word of the Lord boldly, as Elijah did. They are the right souls for you! Through them and because of you, the Lord is going to exalt His name high and He’s going to show that He alone is the God. Amen!

The true hero of Titanic!

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15 : 13

Good morning, friends. Please read the below fully, though it’ll take more time. It has much in it. I got this as a forwarded email. It’s too good. I was not able to shorten it further, as I feel it may lose the essence.

John Harper was thirteen years old that he received Jesus as the Lord of his life. He got married, God did bless John Harper with a beautiful little girl named Nana. It was the night of April 14, 1912. At 11:40 p.m. on that fateful night, an iceberg scraped the Titanic ship's starboard side, showering the decks with ice and ripping open six watertight compartments. The sea poured in. On board the ship that night was John Harper and his much-beloved six-year-old daughter Nana. According to documented reports, as soon as it was apparent that the ship was going to sink, John Harper immediately took his daughter to a lifeboat. It is reasonable to assume that this preacher could have easily gotten on board this boat to safety; however, it never seems to have crossed his mind. He bent down and kissed his precious little girl; looking into her eyes he told her that she would see him again someday.

As the rear of the huge ship began to lurch upwards, it was reported that Harper was seen making his way up the deck yelling "Women, children and unsaved into the lifeboats!" It was only minutes later that the Titanic began to rumble deep within.

John Harper was seen swimming frantically to people in the water leading them to Jesus before the hypothermia became fatal. Mr. Harper swam up to one young Man who had climbed up on a piece of debris. Rev. Harper asked him between breaths, "Are you saved?" The young man replied that he was not. Harper then tried to lead him to Christ only to have the young man who was near shock, reply no. John Harper then took off his life jacket and threw it to the man and said "Here then, you need this more than I do..." and swam away to other people. A few minutes later Harper swam back to the young man and succeeded in leading him to salvation.

Four years later, at a survivors meeting, this young man stood up and in tears recounted how that after John Harper had led him to Christ. Mr. Harper had tried to swim back to help other people, yet because of the intense cold, had grown too weak to swim. His last words before going under in the frigid waters were "Believe on the Name of the Lord Jesus and you will be saved." Does Hollywood remember this man? No.

This servant of God did what he had to do. While other people were trying to buy their way onto the lifeboats and selfishly trying to save their own lives, John Harper gave up his life so that others could be saved. Above all, see his thirst towards winning the souls at the cost of his life!

John Harper was truly the hero of the Titanic!

This is what exactly Jesus did. John Harper reflected the same without fail. What are we doing today? Winning the souls or destroying the chances that the Lord gives us? Come on, be a warrior. Strive hard to win souls everyday.
