“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28: 19,20
Good morning friends. In my fellowship, the guys are going to Surat to share the love of our Christ. So I thought that knowing about the missionaries will help increasing the burden to sow the seeds of Jesus, the only hope to mankind. I’ve already shared this last year. Now I added a few more to it.
I saw the film ‘Candle in the dark’ which tells about 'William Carey' and his awesome work for God.
William Carey was an English protestant missionary. He was called as 'Father of Modern Missions'. He along with his family left his country and reached Kolkata, India. He longed to preach in India. He was very intelligent that he began to learn Bengali when he was in travel to India. He mastered in Bengali and he translated the Holy Bible in Bengali, there after in many other Indian languages. In those days, he and his family members had to support themselves. They suffered a lot, because they even lacked basic needs like shelter and food. In spite of all these things, he struggled hard to work for the vision he had. His wife Dorothy didn’t render any support to him. In the mean time he lost one of his sons and he was not even there to bury him. Dorothy buried her son. There were years of discouragement (no one accepted Christ for seven years), debt, disease, deterioration of his wife's mind, death, but by the grace of God and by the power of the Word Carey continued and conquered for Christ! When he saw the practice of 'Sati' - young women were burnt along with their dead husbands, he was so burdened. He cared a lot for the people around him. He spent nearly seven full years to translate the Bible in Bengali. But all his efforts ended up in vain, when he and his team saw fire eating the work of their hands. With the strength of God, his team again started working on the translation. In the mean time, he joined with 'Raja Ram Mohan Roy' of India and by their joint effort 'Sati' was abolished from India.
On his deathbed Carey called out to a missionary friend, “Dr. Duff! You have been speaking about Dr. Carey; when I am gone, say nothing about Dr. Carey, but speak about Dr. Carey's God.”
His famous quote was, “Expect great things from God; accept great things for God.”
It is because of this man who sacrificed a lot, the Indians have Bible in our regional languages. Later many schools and colleges were also established. Many superstitious beliefs were eradicated. Without the thirst in his heart, he could not have suffered and done these many things in a foreign country where he gave up all his pleasures.
This is the thirst which our Lord wants from you and me. Are you not having many friends around you, who don't know what the solutions to their problems are? Are you hunger enough to show them the right path? Are you longing to live righteously, in spite of the problems you'll face as you are righteous? Once you do, the Lord will use you mightily and you'll be a blessing to others, even to nations. May the Lord strengthen us to live righteously without giving up while facing difficulties, so that we can enter Heaven one day along with many souls for Lord!
May God bless you all!
